Front has closed $59 million in Series C led by its historic partner Sequoia and leaders in the ‘future of work’ space. Coming only two years after Series B, this latest round brings the total raised by Front to $138 million. Front (eF14, YC S14) now moves beyond the shared inbox it’s known for and establishes itself as the definitive product for corporate email.

A Truly Global Expansion

It all started 6 years ago at eFounders in Paris. And what a ride it’s been! Full of ambition and drive, Mathilde Collin and Laurent Perrin got on board the eFounders adventure and co-founded Front. It quickly became the first company to create shared-inboxes that enable teams to collaborate better together. Front has been on the up ever since. It was the first eFounders-backed startup to be accepted at the renowned Y-Combinator in 2014 and it planted a new home in San Francisco.

With Front’s impressive growth and ambition, It was only a matter of time before it caught the attention of prominent SaaS players. This Series C round is one-of-a-kind as it includes prestigious investors Ryan Smith, co-founder and CEO of Qualtrics, Jared Smith co-founder and CTO of Qualtrics, Mike Cannon-Brookes co-founder and co-CEO of Atlassian, Eric Yuan CEO of Zoom, and Frederic Kerrest COO and co-founder of Okta.

A remarkable round if you ask us, which will fuel Front’s already rapid expansion and confirm its dominant position in changing the future of email. The startup now serves 5,500 companies in 96 countries from its offices in San Francisco, Paris and Phoenix.

Transforming Your Inbox

Front set out to revolutionize email inboxes and has consistently met the challenge through its drumbeat of new features. Just last year, the startup launched its Calendar feature which integrates Google and Office 365, allowing users to manage meetings directly in Front.

Laurent, CTO, and his team have made email an intuitive, and almost unbelievably, a fun experience (yes, you read that right: fun). The platform also integrates over 50 apps and social channels like Salesforce, Twitter and WhatsApp, forming a one-stop-shop for emails, messages and teammates.

Meaningful Email = Meaningful Work

While the Front team has been busy improving email (not a small task!), the culture at Front has grown to become more mindful and transparent. Mathilde pays her employees to use their phone less and always stresses the importance of a transparent culture — she published a ton of resources to help other teams be happier at work, with some examples here and here.

Two years ago, we wrote that Front’s Glassdoor reviews were a model for any company out there. Two years later, this still rings true. The reviews don’t lie, 100% approve of Mathilde’s leadership and 99% would recommend Front to a friend. A true testament to the consistency and value-driven leadership of Mathilde at Front.

What’s Next for Front

This new round of financing sets the tone for bigger objectives: drive product innovation and scale go-to-market functions. While starting as a shared-inbox product, the platform is now more powerful than ever and is set to replace corporate email altogether. We’re thrilled for Mathilde, Laurent and the team’s success and wish them the best for what lies ahead! There’s more to come. We’ll be watching.
